365+ Days of Living the Dale Carnegie Principles
Day 912. Sunday, September 22, 2013
Even before this day approached, I knew I’d be using it to catch up on posting all my blogs from the last 3 weeks. That, is a daunting task.
So daunting, I avoided it all day. I dread it—it’s overwhelming and what if I misplaced some blog posts along the way. What do I do? I’ve never lost a post—but what would happen if I can’t account for a day? I see it as a tragic moment.
And although it’s insane, last week I decided to start another blog—completely unrelated to this blog. No, I don’t have time for a second blog—but I love the new blog. My love is being spread thin among two blogs, the gym, dancing and sometimes sleep.
I spent the bulk of my daytime hours working on my new blog. Then I took a nap. When I woke up I was startled. My Carnegie blog! I simply MUST catch up on posting my stories! So I got up, and began working on the task. It turns out, the first blog only took a few minutes. With an unusual focus on determination I decided to post another blog. Then another… and before I knew it, I had caught up on posting 4 blogs! That was easier than I thought!
The Dale Carnegie principles I used while doing this task is from How to Stop Worrying and Start Living:
Once a decision is reached, act!
Cooperate with the inevitable.
The lesson in this story: Responsibilities are not going to magically disappear without your efforts. Make a decision to complete a task and charge forward. Once you complete the task you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment.
