365+ Days of Living the Dale Carnegie Principles

Day 954.  Sunday, November 3, 2013
A friend recently gave me his email address.  He asked that I send him photos from the recent dance event.  I’ve been sitting on this email address for a week.

It’s not that sending an email is difficult.  Finding the photos of him out of 2000+ photos is difficult.  I’ve also promised photos to several other classmates but haven’t delivered.

So today I decided to sit down and start cataloging the 2000+ photos.  It was an all afternoon task.  Tedious.  Boring.  Unpleasant.  I wanted to take a break several times or just leave the task for another day.  But instead I plugged away, tagging all the individuals in the photos so that I can find them easily later.

The Dale Carnegie principle I used is from how to Stop Worrying and Start Living:
Cooperate with the inevitable.

The lesson in this story:  While you may be tempted to avoid a task or chore because it’s unpleasant and you’d rather spend your time doing something fun—know that the task or chore isn’t going away.  You’re only delaying it and prolonging the unnecessary stress.  Get the task complete so you can move forward.
