365+ Days of Living the Dale Carnegie Principles

Day 955.  Monday, November 4, 2013

Charlie:  “How was the opera?  If I remember correctly, you were certain you weren’t going to have fun.”

Smiling Daffodil:  “It was fun!”

I began to describe all the day’s events leading up to the opera as well as dinner, photography shoots and of course, the opera experience.

Charlie listened with a smile on his face.

Charlie:  “I seem to remember I told you, that you would have fun.”

Smiling Daffodil:  “I don’t remember that!”

We both chuckled and I continued rattling on about the opera experience.

The Dale Carnegie principle Charlie used is from How to Win Friends and Influence People:
Principle 4.  Become genuinely interested in other people.
Principle 7.  Be a good listener.  Encourage others to talk about themselves.

The lesson in this story:  Life is far more interesting—when you can build relationships.  One of the prime ways of doing this is showing interest in others.
