365+ Days of Living the Dale Carnegie Principles

Day 965.  Thursday, November 14, 2013
As I was leaving the gym around 2 am Friday morning, I saw Horace arriving at the gym.

He smiled at me.

Horace:  “Smiling Daffodil!  I haven’t seen you here in a long time.  What happened?”

I immediately smiled.

Smiling Daffodil:  “I got off track. It’s hard to return after a vacation—then I got sick…But today is Day 7 of my return to the gym.”

Horace:  “The key is to return immediately after the vacation.  Glad you’re back!”

Smiling Daffodil:  “Yes, I am definitely on track now.  I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Horace:  “On Saturday?”

Smiling Daffodil:  “Oh, technically, tonight!”

The Dale Carnegie principles Horace used are from How to Win Friends and Influence People:
Principle 13.  Begin in a friendly way.
Principle 5.  Smile

The lesson in this story:  It’s always good to feel welcome!  Be sure to demonstrate you are happy to see someone—especially if they’ve been absent for awhile.  It endears the person to you when he or she knows someone noticed their absence.
